Mahatma Gandhi inspires my music:Cesar Lopez, Well-known Musician

Columbian rock musician Cesar Lopez says he is inspired by Mahatma Gandhi's ideologies and spreads the message of non-violence through his gun-guitar, a six-string guitar made of of AK-47.
Lopez, 33, who was on his maiden visit to India to attend the Delhi International Arts Festival, feels music has the power to bind the world together.
"I compose songs talking about the severe issues of my country and my aim is to combat terrorism through the means of art and music. Since my childhood, I have followed Mahatma Gandhi and his struggle of freedom through non-violence," Cesar told PTI.
"Through our music we remind people how Mahatma Gandhi always followed the path of non-violence. Each year we celebrate Gandhi's birthday," he said.
Cesar, who is also a United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime messenger of non-violence in his country, visited the Gandhi museum to donate his gun-guitar as a tribute to Mahatma.
"This AK-47 can kill 300 people at a time and now I am composing music through it that will heal the pain of the people. So far, I have presented my guitar in 17 nations and presenting it to one of my favourite leaders was a major event in my life," he added.

Disillusioned Maoist turns to teaching
Nanda Singh, a Maoist rebel has taken to the teaching profession, educating poor children free of cost, after being left disillusioned by Maoist ideology and extremist activities.
A resident of Jehanabad district, Singh joined the Maoists in 1995, with the aim of serving the poor and to have access to their basic rights.
He was arrested with a huge cache of arms and ammunitions on the charges of abduction and murder.

BAPU IS A STRESS-BUSTER FOR JAILBIRDS


The Mahatma’s lofty ideals are a balm to many bruised minds serving sentences in state jails

Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Research Foundation are organising Gandhi Peace Examination and other reformation programmes in jails. This year, about 1081 jail inmates appeared for Gandhi Peace Exam. Feedbacks of prisoners are overwhelming. Around 3,000 inmates will appear for the exam and reformation programmes such as meditation, yoga, AIDS awareness, adult education are planned to be held in the jails and films like 'Gandhi' and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' will be screened for about 15,000 inmates throughout the year..

15,000 JAILBIRDS ON THE ROAD TO REFORM…


1,081 jail birds from 14 jails of Maharashtra will appear for Gandhi Peace Examination during Gandhi Jayanti Week

Increasing violence in the society has made it pertinent for the youth to be introduced to Gandhiji’s teachings of honesty, non-violence, conflict resolution and peace. Keeping this in mind, every year Mumbai Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Research Foundation organise a Gandhi Peace and Non-violence Examination, in schools, colleges and jails of Maharashtra. This year, on the occasion of 142nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and International Non-violence Day on October 2, around 1,17,000 students from 1,052 schools and 147 colleges of Maharashtra are expected to appear for the examination.
