Overwhelming response to book sale on Mahatma, Vinoba Bhave

About 8600 books related to Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave worth Rs. 4.3 lakhs have been sold in the last six days at an exhibition organised in Mumbai by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal in its bid to promote Gandhian values.

The exhibition was organised by the Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Book Centre, with the financial assistance from Shree Babulnath Mandir Charities, at Hutatma Chowk and Gandhi Book Centre at Nana Chowk from January 29 to February 3 to commemorate the 70th death anniversary of the Father of the Nation.

Participation of youngsters boosts sale of Gandhi books
Week-long exhibition-cum-sale of Gandhi Books organized by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal to commemorate 69th Gandhi death anniversary

The exhibition-cum-sale of books on and by Mahatma Gandhi, organised recently by the Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Book Centre, has received good response with books worth Rs 2.12 lakh having been sold between January 30 and February 4.

Financial assistance has been provided for the initiative by Babulnath Mandir Charities and Mahalaxmi Mandir Charities.

The exhibition-cum-sale received overwhelming response from the readers as the books worth about Rs 2.12 lakh were sold during the six days.

Books in four languages viz. English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati were sold at the exhibition. In the present world of modern technologies like iPhone, tabs and e-books, it is difficult to believe that many people are still interested in buying Gandhi books. The sale proves that Gandhiji's teachings are relevant than ever.

This is evident from the visitors to the Gandhi website www.mkgandhi.org, maintained by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, Mumbai and Gandhi Research Foundation, Jalgaon.

The treasure trove of literature on Mahatma Gandhi at the website www.mkgandhi.org, is receiving excellent response. 295 and 297 books were downloaded from this site in the month of May and June 2016 respectively. The list was topped by Gandhi's My Experiments with Truth, followed by Essence of Hinduism, Hind Swaraj, Gandhi Relevance, Story of My Life, Mind of Mahatma Gandhi, Gandhiji on Khadi, Gandhi Biography for Beginners among others.

Former SC Judge Faces Flak For Blog Post

Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju's blog post, which condemns Mahatma Gandhi as "an agent of the British who did great harm to India" has shocked citizens. His belief is defied by the fact that thousands research Bapu's life story to this day.

Katju recently dismissed Satyagraha as "reactionary nonsense" and said Bapu helped the British by eulogizing Hinduism and alienating Muslims.

More than one lakh people across the world visited the website www.mkgandhi.org around Gandhi Birth Anniversary on October 2. This comprehensive one spot Gandhi information website is maintained jointly by Gandhian organizations, Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal, Mumbai and Gandhi Research Foundation, Jalgaon.

The website received 41,677 visits on October 1 and 62,522 visits on October 2. Overall, between October 1 and 3, the site had 1,01,098 unique visitors.

For five days from October 2, Narayanbhai Desai kept the audience that filled Gandhi Sewa Mandir Hall in Bandra glued to their seats with his narration of Gandhi Katha. It was a story that most people knew in broad strokes, but had never heard told in quite this intimate, passionate and engrossing fashion. Gandhi knew me before I knew him, Narayanbhai began. 

Son of Gandhi’s secretary Mahadevbhai, he based his quizzical claim on the fact that Gandhi had held him as a baby when he didn’t know who Gandhi was. Sarvodaya Mandal and Gandhi Research Foundation are organising Gandhi Peace Examination and other reformation programmes in jails. This year, about 1081 jail inmates appeared for Gandhi Peace Exam. Feedbacks of prisoners are overwhelming. Around 3,000 inmates will appear for the exam and reformation programmes such as meditation, yoga, AIDS awareness, adult education are planned to be held in the jails and films like 'Gandhi' and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' will be screened for about 15,000 inmates throughout the year..
